Gmessenger - What is it?

Gmessenger is the Instant Messenger that I am hoping Google will create. I'm hoping Google will take the best of MSN and Yahoo (forget AOL, it's terrible) and create the ultimate Messenger and integrate it with everything Google has to offer. See This Page for my summary of the Gmessenger concept.

If you have ideas, suggestions, thoughts or whatever, comment them here and hopefully, when Google becomes aware of our blog, they will receive and impressive amount of feedback from us.

  • I don't reallt see much of a point. MSN is fine...Just sign up a passport for you GMail account and you've got IM on your GMail.

  • Yes, MSN is fine. Hotmail is fine too. Yahoo Search is fine. But Google is millions of times better than Yahoo Search. Gmail is millions of times better than Hotmail. So Gmessenger can and will be millions of times better tha MSN Messenger. Google has a tradition of giving people what they need and being good at it.

  • Well, unless GMessenger is a universal client, ala Trillian, I think you're wasting your time. People will argue over which messaging *service* is best until doomsday (case in point, see previous comments). Give them a feature-rich client that they can use on *any/every* IM service & they'll flock to it!

You also forgot a tab for Froogle...

  • I don't think most of that should be built in - instead you want some sort of plugin architecture.

In addition, I think it's important to differentiate between a messaging service, servers and protocols (what Google would provide) and a messaging client (which Google could develop or which could be developed by a third party). What you're looking at there is much more a client implementation, and honestly I suggest looking at Trillian Pro for much of what you're looking for. I don't know how rapid plugin development is, but I suspect that there'll be a Gmail interface before long and I think everything else you're talking about could also be done.

  • There's something out there called Trillian that combines them all-- AOL, Yahoo, MSN, IRC and something else (I can't remember). The free version has all the basic functionality, but on the downside, you can't see images or create or join chatrooms. I think you can do these things if you purchase the full version, but who'd pay $25 for Instant Messenger?

  • I just got to know about Google Groups 2 (beta) and tried to find a gmessenger group.. no joy. Maybe you want to create one instead of having people to comment on your Blog? Just a thought.

  • Create on for us! That would be awesome if you'd help us out. It's tough just running all these blogs. We'd love you to start one and link to us too.

  • the idea is simply amazing,

    msn sucks.

if gmail starts, the best feature would be like gportal

where u can search, messenger, and i dont think gchat is a good idea, just messenger where u can check ur mail in it.

The idea is to simply surprise everybody with such a technology or features that everybody shifts to gmail..

if google wants, they can make everybody shift to completety from msn to google.

    by making gbrowser, and gchat.

:) less see, what google plans.

  • Hey I think Google should really consider of bulding this. But one more thing I think they should be starting a service like skype but now it should be free pc to phone not pc to pc. I think Google can do this and they can also profit from this because they keep something called speech-ads. Well I have to ask the googlers about it
